Origin and tradition

Yucatec Maya folklore places the Aluxob around fields, caves, and household boundaries, where offerings may be made for protection.

A diminutive humanlike figure in simple clothing beside tall maize and limestone. This interpretation emphasizes the Maya field guardian and its mischievous character; it does not turn the Alux into an animal-faced goblin.
