Jiangshi (Hopping Vampire)

Origin and tradition

The jiangshi is a reanimated corpse in Chinese folklore, recognizable in popular imagery by its stiff, hopping movement. Stories connect it with burial, the return of the dead, and protective talismans. Film adaptations helped standardize the familiar image of Qing-era clothing.
