Strigoi / Dracula

Origin and tradition

Romanian strigoi traditions concern restless dead and, in some accounts, living people with harmful supernatural powers. They belong to a wider range of burial beliefs and revenant stories. The aristocratic vampire of modern fiction is only one later image and should not define the whole tradition.
