Marid

Origin and tradition

Marid is an Arabic term associated with rebellious or powerful spirits. Its use in religious texts and later folklore varies, and it is not a universally separate species of water genie. Modern fantasy often adds a blue aquatic body that should not be mistaken for a defining traditional appearance.
