Origin and tradition

Champ is Lake Champlain's modern lake-monster legend, associated with Vermont, New York, and Quebec. Photographs and reported encounters helped create its public identity. Indigenous traditions of powerful water beings have their own cultural meanings and should not be reduced to early sightings of the same animal.
